The first level of the Handweavers Correspondence course starts right at the beginning. The basics of weaving is explained in great detail from warping, dressing your loom to weaving and finishing your work. There are video clips delivered on a USB stick for each step with written explanation included. Everything will be there to make the weaving projects a success and at the same time a great learning experience.
In the first level you will learn how to read a draft and start designing your own designs. The drafting in the first level is all about Twill, a very versatile weaving structure with lots of patterns to learn from.
The whole of level 1 includes the colour theory for textile artists. It includes making exercises with paints and pencils to learn the basics of colour and its effects.
Fibre Knowledge starts with cotton and linen as the plant fibres. There are so many different fibres and each one has a different feel and use in weaving. Learn everything about these fibres on how they are produced and how they behave in weaving.
The subject of loom theory shows you everything about our looms and weaving tools. It starts right at the beginning with using the right names for each part of the loom. What about all the different looms that exist. Do you know their names?
