The second level of the Handweavers Correspondence course works a little bit different than level 1. Here you will be able to order individual modules/packages. There is the option of pick and skip whatever you like. Just be aware that each weaving project goes over two packages. The uneven numbered packages introduce the new weaving project and include the designing, warping and dressing the loom. The even numbered packages have the weaving section for the projects and show how to finish the product professionally. Therefore it is not wise to order only one package, as you will receive only half of the weaving project.
Over the first 9 packages within the chapter of fabric theory there is the subject of how to analyse a fabric. It shows you how to take a fabric apart to figure out how it is woven. How many shafts are needed to weave it, what draft it is and what yarn. There are are 9 different fabrics to analyse, one for each package. The package 10 to 18 then include the subject of fabric theory, where you can learn all about different products and what is needed to produce them.
The new subject of designing introduces all sort of different ways of creating any designs. From runners over block designs to tessellations. Some of these exercises are then used in the weaving project to create a new product with your own design. Other design methods are Fibonacci, fashion designs or creating a silhouette.
This level of the course keeps going with drafting and gets more and more advanced. It includes the rep weave, different laces and double weave. There will also be some theory about the overshot pattern, shadow weave and summer & winter.
The fibre knowledge presents the animal fibres from sheep wool to mohair, angora, camel and silk. The fibre knowledge will finish the subject off with a chapter about all the chemical fibres.
